Spoiler alert… anger management isn’t just for people who punch holes through walls. It is for men and women. It is for people who are passive aggressive. It is for people who feel they are never heard. It is for people who lack boundaries. And it is for people who have loud outbursts. Anger is simply a protective emotion, it helps us sense danger and can take over when our bodies feel the need to “fight or flee.”
Having anger, or even trouble managing your anger, does not make you a bad person. Many of the people working on anger management are the kindest, most loving individuals you could imagine.
My approach to anger management is emotional management. In our first few sessions, I will work with you to find the root of the emotional mismanagement and help you decide if you need more tools and education or if there is a deeper trauma or pain that needs to be dealt with first. From there, we will work together to bring you to a place where you can understand and manage all of your emotions.
